The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback room is going to look quite different next season.
Mitch Trubisky had already left town to be back with the Buffalo Bills, and they just announced that they will sign Russell Wilson.
Kenny Pickett will stay there, most likely as a backup, which closes the door for Mason Rudolph.
According to a report by Mark Kaboly (via Dov Kleiman), “something crazy” would have to happen for the Steelers to keep Rudolph.

The perennial backup was expected to be Ben Roethlisberger’s heir, but he never took that step forward.
He was better than Kenny Pickett last season, even getting the nod to close out the campaign when the Pittsburgh product was cleared to get back on the field.
Then again, the prospects of him beating Pickett — or anybody else — for the starting job this season were quite slim, and with Russell Wilson in town, he’s fallen further behind in the pecking order.
Needless to say, Rudolph is unlikely to become a starter somewhere else.
However, he’s a proven veteran who has shown that he can hold down the fort and even maybe get a win if need be.
The Steelers will need to figure out their new quarterback dynamics, and while most people assume Russell Wilson will be the starter from day one, he’ll have to be at his best for them to continue rolling with him and not turn back to Pickett.
Perhaps, a little competition is just what both of them need to be at their best.
