There is an art to interviewing athletes, and Jim Rome has been one of the stars of the sports media industry for decades, so he knows how to do it about as well as anybody.
That being said, Rome has his principles as anybody does, and he recently ripped into a New York Jets superstar for an interview that went poorly on Friday.
On Friday, superstar defensive tackle Quinnen Williams appeared on The Jim Rome Show to do a quick interview, and Williams completely shut down a question about how Aaron Rodgers is as a teammate to promote College Colors Day, to which Rome responded later with, “Well that didn’t go as planned, did it?…I’m not going to say something when he’s not here that I didn’t say to his face…but memo to everybody who’s got a pitch, you’ve gotta play some ball.”
Rome also pointed out how Williams was 46 minutes late and mentioned “I’ve done this 30 years, nobody is better at that than me. I will always get to your pitch, always, which is why I’m getting sick of pitches because things like that happen.”
Williams refusing to talk about anything other than College Colors Day and then not being prepared to talk about it when Rome asked him about it made for an all-time awkward interview.
Rome reiterated that Williams is a good guy and he doesn’t want to make a big deal out of the situation, noting it was simply a bad media appearance.
This was still one of the most awkward moments in recent interview memory.
