It is September, and that means in some parts of the country, the weather is starting to cool a bit.

But in Southern California, summer tends to stretch deep into October, and oftentimes, September is the hottest month of the year.

With the Los Angeles Rams nearing their 2024 NFL season opener at the Detroit Lions, a heat wave has engulfed the area, forcing head coach Sean McVay to change the team’s practice plans, according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic.

Sean McVay said the Rams may have to change the number of consecutive plays they run due to the heat. Many hot climate teams practice early AM (but that time is key for jog through here, important element in McVay system) or in a bubble in high temps; Houston had a “cooling box”.

High temperatures in downtown Los Angeles are expected to hit triple digits over the next few days, but in Woodland Hills, where the Rams hold practice, temperatures could be higher than 110 degrees.

The Rams are coming off an unexpectedly successful 2023 season after some predicted they would have a terrible record. But instead, they won 10 games and clinched a playoff spot.

In the wild-card round, they came within a whisker of upsetting the Detroit Lions, who had finished first in the NFC North.

Therefore, expectations are high for a team that won Super Bowl LVI.

Matthew Stafford is still starting at quarterback and All-Pro wide receiver Cooper Kupp is still around, but L.A. has some new young stars who have revitalized the club.

Among them are wideout Puka Nacua, running back Kyren Williams and defensive lineman Kobie Turner.

On the other hand, legendary defensive tackle Aaron Donald retired, so the Rams will have to find a way to fill the huge void that decision created.
