During the prime of J.J. Watt’s career, and DeAndre Hopkins being considered one of the best wide receivers in the game, the Houston Texans were a perennial playoff team in the AFC, as they were always a force to be reckoned with in the AFC South division.
Over the past few years, especially after dealing with the Deshaun Watson saga in Houston, the Texans have been a team with a bleak future and no telling when the franchise would get back to form.
Fortunately, the team was able to make some bold moves in the 2023 NFL Draft, which appear to already be paying off during the 2023 campaign.
The team selected Ohio State star quarterback C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 overall pick, and it seems as though they have the next star in the making at the position, as he has far exceeded expectations thus far.
Stroud has gotten better and better with each passing week since becoming the team’s starting quarterback, and now he’s starting to get MVP buzz after leading the team to a comeback win over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Stroud has led the Texans to five wins in their last seven games, which puts the team in its best position since 2019 via PFF.

Even though the Jacksonville Jaguars are ahead of the Texans in the division standings, Houston looks highly motivated to make a playoff push in the second half of the season, with Stroud looking to make a lot of noise as this team’s new undisputed leader.
Only time will tell if Stroud has what it takes to get this team to the next level, but things are definitely looking promising in Houston moving forward.
