Once upon a time, the New York Knicks were one of the most appealing destinations for elite hoopers, granted that they had a mythical arena in the Madison Square Garden, one of the most passionate fan bases in the sports world, and a city that lives, breaths basketball, and never sleeps.

That no longer seems to be the case, but the new-look Knicks are slowly bringing that mojo back.

That’s why it wouldn’t be crazy to see them land a couple of lowkey impactful free agents in the offseason, as SF Chronicle (via NBA Central) reports that they’re currently a frontrunner to sign Donte DiVincenzo.

DiVincenzo is coming off a very solid year with the Golden State Warriors, providing a big offensive spark off the bench, serving as a secondary ball-handler and playmaker, and becoming a fan favorite for his hustle on the defensive end of the floor.

Joining the Knicks would reunite him with Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson, who he shared the floor with during their days at Villanova.

This move makes perfect sense for everybody involved, as he’d instantly have an expanded role on Tom Thibodeau’s team, mostly because of his gritty and physical defensive play, as well as his ability to knock down shots from beyond the arc.

The Knicks aren’t a championship contender just yet, but they took a major leap forward upon Brunson’s arrival.

Hart, Brunson, and DiVincenzo already know what it takes to win championships together, so they must feel quite confident about their ability to find that same success on the biggest stage now.
