There are plenty of good teams in MLB, and a few elite ones.
Of course, there are a lot of mediocre and bad teams.
And then, in the last tier, we have the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics.
The Royals have a 18-50 record and a .265 winning percentage; whereas the A’s are 19-52 with a .268 winning percentage.
That means two things: one, the Royals have officially overtaken the A’s as the worst squad in MLB; and two, they broke a record between the two.
“With the Royals losing their 50th game last night, this is the earliest into an MLB season that multiple teams reached 50 losses (also Athletics). The previous earliest was June 18th, which happened in 2003 (Padres & Tigers) and 2018 (Orioles & Royals),” OptaSTATS tweeted.

We knew the A’s were bad: their ownership has been more focused on moving to Las Vegas than in fielding a competitive roster for several years now.
But the Royals’ inability to move from rebuilders to even a mediocre team has been astounding.
To think that just eight years ago, they were lifting the World Series trophy.
Now, after losing nine straight, they have a worse winning percentage than the A’s and the rest of the league.
It’s the fastest (June 15) that at least two teams have reached 50 losses.
Sadly, these two franchises don’t look set to contend anytime soon.
Many things will need to happen for that to be the case, and it doesn’t look that they are about to happen.
At least Royals fans will get to see their team live indefinitely, unlike A’s supporters.
