Willie Randolph is much more than just a guest instructor in New York Yankees camp.
He played 13 of his 19 MLB campaigns with the Yanks, winning two World Series as a starting second baseman.
He was also a coach in the dynasty years, the late 90s and early 2000s, accumulating four additional rings.
Randolph was a fantastic fielder and knew his craft very well: he was particularly good making diving stops and turning the double-play.
That’s why, when Randolph talks in camp, the young guys listen.
There is just so much wisdom in his words.
Yankees insider Bryan Hoch posted a video of him imparting knowledge to two rising Yankees infielders: Anthony Volpe and Oswaldo Cabrera.

Volpe just won a Gold Glove at shortstop in 2023, but is always eager to learn and is happy to listen carefully to everything Randolph has to say.
Cabrera, on the other hand, is trying to increase his versatility to earn more playing time with the Yankees.
He is a natural shortstop, but can play second base, third base, and even the outfield corners.
Every point that Randolph has for him will be well received.
Ultimately, offense will be the one element making or breaking these young guys’ careers, but there is nothing wrong with going through defensive drills and tricks.
Defense, in many cases, also wins games.
Volpe will be the starting shortstop and Cabrera will try to make the team as a utility player.
In any case, they would be better off paying attention to the great Willie Randolph, who knows the highs and lows of being a Yankee.
