The San Francisco 49ers didn’t have a really dazzling draft this year, but they did select a few players they hope will become solid contributors.
One of them is offensive lineman Dominick Puni from the University of Central Missouri and the University of Kansas, who they took in the third round of last month’s draft.
With minicamps opening up across the NFL, Puni told the media that he’s looking forward to protecting 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, and he also praised Purdy, per 95.7 The Game.
“I love Brock Purdy! The fact he was the last pick in the draft, to where he is now, it’s a crazy story. I don’t think you could write that…When the other 2 QB’s went down, he came in and won. I said, ‘watch him cook,” Puni said.

Puni can play both tackle and guard, and some feel he could quickly become the Niners’ starting right guard.
They have needed help on the right side of their offensive line for a while, and that deficiency was on display in Super Bowl LVIII, as the Kansas City Chiefs were able to blitz Purdy on a couple of crunch-time snaps and deny him a potential game-winning touchdown pass.
Puni did well enough last season to be named to the All-Big 12 First Team, and in two years at Kansas, he didn’t allow a single sack, regardless of whether he was at tackle or guard.
San Francisco has experienced plenty of regular season success over the last five seasons, but in the playoffs, it has been one heartbreak after another for them, and it has now been nearly 30 years since their last Super Bowl championship.
Niners Faithful is starving for another Vince Lombardi Trophy, and they’re hoping 2024 is the season their team makes good on its “Quest For Six.”
