The San Francisco 49ers and their fans were relieved to know that their best player would be on the field for their season opener.
Reigning AP Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa ended his holdout as he finally reached an agreement on a new deal.
Bosa got the most lucrative contract extension for a defensive player in league history, and even though both parties were always optimistic about getting a deal done, GM John Lynch admitted the process was a journey, via ProFootballTalk.
“And first of all, just elated to have Nick a part of the Niners,” Lynch said, via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com “I think he said, ‘Niner for life.’ And I love the sound of that. He’s a tremendous young man, tremendous teammate, and what a player. Really, a special player. And I think the answer to that is a special player like that is going to deserve a special contract. And at times, they get complicated.”

Lynch talked about how he had never experienced a holdout, so, obviously, he was quite nervous about how things could’ve turned out.
However, both Bosa and the organization were always vocal about their optimism and made it seem like it was just a matter of time and minor details before they got this situation out of the way.
Bosa reported to the team on Wednesday and participated in Thursday’s practice.
There has been no talk about a potential snap count or limit whatsoever, as he missed the entirety of training camp and the preseason, but he was still working out on his own and is obviously more than familiar with their defensive scheme.
The younger Bosa brother is coming off a remarkable campaign, pacing the league with 18.5 sacks and adding 48 quarterback hits, 19 tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles.
The Niners will kick off the season vs. Kenny Pickett and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
They’re once again expected to be one of the biggest powerhouses in the NFC, and most of that will be due to their Bosa-anchored defense.
