The San Francisco 49ers, who ended the 2022 regular season with a 10-game winning streak and reached the NFC Championship Game, look to have an even stronger roster for next season.
They augmented what was already the NFL’s best defense with the signing of star defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, who was acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, the team they lost to in the NFC title game, which not only improved them but also weakened Philly at the same time.
However, the big elephant in the room is the status of quarterback Brock Purdy, the rookie who took the league by storm starting in Week 13 when he replaced the injured Jimmy Garoppolo.
After suffering a torn UCL in his throwing elbow against the Eagles, he underwent surgery, and The Athletic’s David Lombardi says that June 2 is when Purdy is expected to be able to throw a football again, as it will be 12 weeks after his procedure.
June 2 will mark the 12-week point past Brock Purdy’s surgery. That’s when the 49ers QB is currently expected to resume throwing, and that’s when Dr. Keith Meister and the team expect to develop a firmer timeline for Purdy’s return

Purdy, the last player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft, put up impressive numbers in his five regular season starts and two postseason starts.
If all goes according to plan, the Niners hope he’ll be able to participate in at least the tail-end of training camp and be ready for Week 1 of the 2023 campaign.
Until then, Trey Lance, the third pick in the 2021 draft, will assume QB1 duties, which will give him another opportunity to show he has grown and improved.
He was San Francisco’s QB1 when the 2022 schedule started, but he suffered a serious ankle injury in Week 2, and there went his season.
Although there are some who feel Lance should be the starter regardless next season, the fact is, at least for now, Purdy is the more proven signal-caller.
