The San Francisco 49ers headed into the NFL offseason with two goals to accomplish that would help set up the future of the franchise as a perennial title contender.

The first goal was to sort out the quarterback situation by parting ways with Jimmy Garoppolo, figuring out if Trey Lance is the real deal, and making sure Brock Purdy is the right man for the job as the starter.

Although it took some time for the 49ers to make a decision on Lance, he was ultimately traded to the Dallas Cowboys, with veteran newcomer Sam Darnold now officially the backup behind Purdy.

With the quarterback situation dealt with for the time being, the next order of business was signing elite defensive end Nick Bosa to a long-term contract extension.

This took much longer than expected and threatened to go into the NFL regular season, but the 49ers got a handle on it and inked him to a new deal, which reportedly has $88 million fully guaranteed, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic.

As usual, the main goal of these contract negotiations with superstar players is to top the one that came before it and reset the market, which the team accomplished with Bosa getting $8 million more guaranteed than Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt.

Fortunately for the 49ers, things worked out perfectly, with Bosa being happy with his new deal and, as a result, being expected to play tomorrow when the team travels to face Watt and company at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
