A day doesn’t go by in the NFL offseason that we don’t get to talk about the San Francisco 49ers and their wide receiver situation.

However, this time, the news wasn’t about Brandon Aiyuk and his alleged desire to be traded.

According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Niners have officially signed former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Frank Darby to a one-year deal.

The financial terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed.

The Falcons drafted the 6-foot-1, 200-pound wide receiver out of Arizona State in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

The former No. 187 pick made a single appearance for the Falcons last season, failing to log a catch.

Thus far, the 26-year-old has only managed to haul in a couple of receptions for 29 yards through 16 appearances in three NFL seasons.

Aiyuk reported to training camp but hasn’t been practicing with the team.

He could still get a contract extension despite requesting a trade, but the situation seems kind of complicated right now.

The Niners have more than enough weapons to work with, but if they’re unable to find some middle ground with Aiyuk, they’ll need someone else to step up big time.

Darby hasn’t found much success in the league, but perhaps he just needed a change of scenery to be at his best.
