Despite the ongoing James Harden fiasco, the Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season.
The 76ers appear to be behind the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks regarding talent, but they’re considered a top-three power in the Eastern Conference.
Philadelphia will be counting on the efforts of reigning MVP Joel Embiid to get them back into the postseason, though trying to make the Eastern Conference Finals will be about as difficult as it ever has been given the competition at the top.
Embiid has unfortunately gotten injured at the wrong time multiple years now, so the organization is hoping that he can stay healthy when the games matter most.
The 76ers tried to shore up their big man depth in free agency when they signed Mo Bamba, though the team was also counting on Montrezl Harrell to be a rotation piece for them.
However, Philadelphia decided to waive Harrell ahead of Opening Night via Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Philadelphia 76ers are waiving center Montrezl Harrell, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Harrell’s ACL/meniscus injury and absence make him the release due to a roster crunch, but he’s aiming to make a return after the All-Star break.

Harrell, unfortunately, suffered an ACL/meniscus injury earlier in the offseason and is expected to miss the first few months of the regular season.
With Philadelphia over the 15-man roster limit, they needed to make a cut and the veteran big man made the most sense.
Although he’s not a very good defender and is undersized as a center, Harrell is an infections energy player who can score well against opposing bench bigs.
If he’s able to prove he’s healthy, he could end up being a bargain signing for the right team later next year.
