The Los Angeles Clippers and Paul George were unable to strike a deal last season.

Now, with him about to test free agency, all signs point to him joining a different team.

According to Philadelphia 76ers beat writer Keith Pompey, the Sixers are currently the frontrunners in acquiring his services (via Legion Hoops).

REPORT: The 76ers are the frontrunners to land Paul George, per @PompeyOnSixers.

Moreover, Pompey reports that, should George sign with the team, he’d help Daryl Morey recruit championship-caliber role players to join him in the City of Brotherly Love.

The Sixers are on the verge of being a championship team.

Tyrese Maxey is a budding star with three-level scoring prowess, and we’ve already seen what Joel Embiid is capable of when he’s at full strength.

They also have a solid core of role players and a savvy tactician calling the shots in Nick Nurse.

Morey has proven to be untrustworthy in the past and he’s developed a bad reputation among star-caliber players, which might be perhaps the only thing that could stand in the way of these negotiations.

Even so, they might give George a better chance of winning an NBA championship at this point in his career.

Kawhi Leonard can’t stay healthy, and the Clippers play in the stacked Western Conference, making it tougher for him to reach the NBA Finals there.

Also, the Sixers are reportedly more than willing to make him a Godfather-like offer to lure him back to the East, so it’s hard to envision another team beating them in the race for his services.
