The Philadelphia 76ers haven’t come close to achieving their postseason goals but they have been in the playoffs for the last several years.

That being said, this year was much worse than previous seasons and they were eliminated by the New York Knicks in a fierce opening-round showdown.

Speaking to Keith Pompey, via NBACentral, Paul Reed said this sort of defeat was “different” and difficult for him.

“This is definitely a different type of feeling for me. I never felt this before, getting kicked out of the first round,” Reed said.

One can’t blame Reed for feeling upset about this defeat because it was not how the 76ers pictured the end of their season.

Once again, the 76ers had plans of going far in the playoffs and ideally reaching the NBA Finals.

But, once again, injuries got in the way of those plans.

When Joel Embiid was hurt earlier in the season, it was clear that the team was going to have a tough time staying toward the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

They tried their hardest without Embiid but they obviously needed him.

When he returned, the team put together a string of wins but the New York Knicks were just too much for them, especially because Embiid was still battling nagging injuries.

This season got off to a rough start, with the James Harden fiasco distracting the team and casting their future in doubt.

But they pushed through that and looked like they could get by just fine without Harden.

Now that the 76ers have failed in the playoffs, the front office will possibly make some changes, bring in new talent, and hope for better luck in 2024–25.

Reed hopes this is the last time the Sixers are stopped in the first round.
