The New York Knicks have their first-round matchup.

With the Philadelphia 76ers taking down the Miami Heat, they’re now poised to head to Madison Square Garden.

And while the series hasn’t even started yet, it seems like the Sixers are already in playoff mode.

That’s why backup big man Paul Reed didn’t hesitate to send the Knicks a message.

Talking to Chandlers Parsons, Reed claimed that as much as they won’t run from the smoke that came with potentially going against the Boston Celtics, the Sixers are happy that they’ll go against the Knicks because they’re “the easier team” (via Knicks Videos).

Paul Reed on the Sixers facing the Knicks in the first round of the playoffs instead of the Celtics:

“We ain’t ducking no smoke, but yeah, we wanted the Knicks matchup, of course. That’s the easier team.”

Granted, perhaps these words could be taken out of context, and he only meant the easier team between the Knicks and the Celtics, which could make some sense.

Nonetheless, that’s not how Knicks players are going to get this message.

Reed could have a prominent role in this series.

Joel Embiid isn’t even close to 100%, and he looked quite limited vs. the Miami Heat.

The Knicks are a gritty, hard-nosed, and competitive team that will make the Sixers work on every single possession.

They will definitely take those words personally, so Reed could be in for a very bad time in that series when he sets foot on the court.

Then again, this is what people want to see at this time of the year.

Playoff basketball is where rivalries grow and develop, and hopefully, these two teams will give us seven games of physical and competitive basketball.
