For the last several years, the buzz phrase around the Philadelphia 76ers has been “trust the process.”
For a while, that process saw them gradually improve year by year, but lately, it has stalled and resulted in a number of early playoff exits despite winning lots of regular-season games.
By now, the Sixers have grown impatient, knowing now is the time to be aggressive in order to become true championship contenders, and there have been rumors about what they’re looking to do this offseason to get that done.
They will reportedly look to sign nine-time All-Star forward Paul George, but another rumor has them looking to trade for another multi-time All-Star veteran forward in Jimmy Butler, then offering him a max extension, per Keith Pompey (via NBACentral).

Butler previously played for the Sixers five seasons ago when they acquired him from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a trade early that season.
They showed promise with him, but they ended up falling in Game 7 of the second round of the playoffs to the Toronto Raptors on Kawhi Leonard’s memorable game-winner that bounced on the rim several times.
Philly is a different and more potent team right now, and they likely would’ve ended up with one of the Eastern Conference’s top seeds had superstar center Joel Embiid not injured his meniscus.
Adding Butler to a Philly team that already boasts Embiid, last season’s MVP, and a rising star guard in Tyrese Maxey could make it into a legitimate championship contender overnight.
Butler’s intense leadership and clutch heroics have gotten his Miami Heat to the NBA Finals twice in his five seasons there, and perhaps it would be what the Sixers need to get there for the first time since 2001.
