The Golden State Warriors are fighting to stay out of the play-in tournament.

Currently, they have a record of 39-36 and are tied for fifth place in the Western Conference.

Golden State is the reigning champion and is hoping to add another ring this year.

One reason for their struggles has been their poor defense, especially on the road.

The Warriors have nine road wins this season and that makes them one of the five worst road teams in the league.

Luckily they have some reinforcements on the way, especially in the form of defense.

According to the Warriors, Gary Payton II is probable to play on Sunday.

Payton II is one of the best on-ball defenders in the NBA.

He was elite for the Warriors last season and played a big role in their championship.

After Payton signed with the Portland Trail Blazers this offseason many Warriors fans were sad to see him go.

Luckily the Warriors corrected that issue by trading for Payton on trade deadline day.

Payton has yet to make his season debut for the Warriors and you can expect a loud ovation when he takes the floor.

If Golden State plans to make it out of the Western Conference they must defend better.

Getting Andrew Wiggins back would be ideal, but there is no timetable for his return.

Expect Payton to play a major role for the Warriors down the stretch and into the playoffs.

His defensive prowess will gladly be welcomed back by Golden State.
