Years ago, the National Football League allowed players to wear No. 0 on their jerseys if they pleased.
Now, thanks to a proposal by the Philadelphia Eagles, that might as well be the case again soon.
The proposal, which was one of nine submitted by several teams, could be approved as soon as Tuesday afternoon, according to NFL insider Jonathan Jones.
Won’t be surprised later today if the NFL OKs the number 0 for jerseys this year later today at the league meetings

The league had already approved a proposal by the Kansas City Chiefs that allowed non-linemen to wear any number between 1-49, with several other options depending on the position.
And while that proposal wasn’t met with enthusiasm from some players, others actually loved to have the chance to wear the same jersey numbers they wore in high school and/or college.
Should this rule be approved, it would mark the first time a player wears No. 00 or 0 on their jersey in over four decades, more specifically in 1981.
Moreover, this proposal also states that kickers and punters could wear any number between 0-49 and 90-99, changing the current rule of 1-19.
The Eagles also proposed a rule change that would allow a team to maintain possession of the ball after a score by running a fourth-and-20 play from their own 20-yard line instead of going for the onside kick, just like it happens in the XFL.
And while the league might not want to borrow anything from their lesser-known — and far less successful — competition, it would most definitely add plenty of excitement to the game, so they should at least take a look into it.
