Earlier in the week, San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch admitted that Brock Purdy is the frontrunner to be the team’s starting quarterback next season.
Lynch cited that if he were healthy and the team were to line up right now, he’d have the upper hand in that regard.
Nonetheless, we might want to hit the brakes on the Purdy mania, as he still has to work his way back to full strength.
According to HC Kyle Shanahan, the Niners currently don’t have a clear picture regarding his recovery timeline, citing that they’ll have a better idea of it in June.

Shanahan revealed that Purdy wouldn’t be able to throw before that, so there will be no way of telling whether he’s ready or not, leading to some speculation by the fans.
Trey gonna be QB3
Why do you think they brought in Sam lol

Give Lance every opportunity to play and let Brock heal.

Shanahan has garnered enough equity over the years to be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his QB room…

Purdy recently underwent surgery to repair a tear in the UCL in his right elbow, an injury he sustained during the Niners’ heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.
Shanahan explained that it could take six or eight months before Purdy is back to full strength, depending on how he heals.
The head coach added that there’s a chance that he’s ready to go in Week 1, but he admitted that he could be out through Week 4 as well.
Notably, he confirmed Lynch’s assessment and said that Purdy is the frontrunner to be the QB1, so we can only assume Sam Darnold and Trey Lance will go toe-to-toe for the backup spot, and they might have the opportunity to take No. 1 spot if Purdy’s recovery doesn’t go as planned.
