The Cleveland Guardians made a huge move on Tuesday when they signed second baseman Andres Gimenez to a seven-year, $106.5 million contract extension.
The news was first reported by Ken Rosenthal.
The deal also includes a club option worth $23 million that could increase to $24 million with escalators.
It will cover his remaining three years of arbitration and the next five free agency years.
The contract is also the largest pre-arbitration deal for a second baseman in the history of baseball.
However, there are other important details of the deal.
On Twitter, Rosenthal revealed another important piece of information regarding the contract.

With the club option, the Guardians have a $2.5 million buyout, and if Gimenez hits all escalators of the option, he will make up to $128 million in the deal.
Cleveland had signed Jose Ramirez to a long-term extension before the start of the 2022 season.
Now, they have locked up Gimenez as well and have two stars that they can build around as they try to continue their success from a season ago and go deeper into the postseason.
The team won the AL Central and reached the ALDS, falling just short against the New York Yankees.
Gimenez came over to Cleveland from the New York Mets in the deal that sent Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco back to New York.
Amed Rosario also came over to Cleveland in that trade.
Gimenez is going to an integral piece of the Guardians future as they try to usher in a new era of winning baseball.
