Kristaps Porzingis of the Washington Wizards is enjoying what might be his best season ever.
The Latvian big man is averaging 23.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
Therefore, it’s not surprising to hear that the Wizards want to stay in the Porzingis business for a long time.
Shams Charania is reporting that the Wizards and Porzingis are in “serious discussions” about a possible contract extension.
The team is apparently prioritizing re-signing Porzingis as well as forward Kyle Kuzma.

Porzingis has a $36 million player option for the upcoming 2023-24 season and if he declines any offer from Washington, he could be eligible for an extension that grants him nearly $200 million over four years from another team.
But he seems to like playing for the Wizards and many people assume he will take a deal with this team.
The Wizards think both Porzingis and Kuzma are the future of the team.
They work well together and both are reaching new heights with their play.
Kuzma is putting up 21.2 points and 3.7 assists this season, both career highs.
They are a strong, versatile core for the team.
However, the Wizards are likely going to finish in the lottery again this season.
They are currently 34-42 in the East and 2.5 games back from the Chicago Bulls for the number ten spot with only six games left on their schedule.
There are some among Washington’s fanbase who wish the team would blow things up and start over from scratch.
As great as Porzingis and Kuzma have been, the team is still mired in mediocrity and will need more than a re-signing of both players to get good.
Will the Wizards make more moves to build a stronger team around both Porzingis and Kuzma?
