The NFL owners meetings are always a time when some controversial rule changes are discussed.
This year one of the most controversial is what to do with Thursday Night Football games.
Just about every player hates having to play on Thursday night, but it is a cash cow for the NFL.
So now the owners are discussing whether or not games can be flexed into the Thursday night slot.
Each season the Thursday night games are not very good.
But, since they are the only NFL game on that night, most football fans still watch.
So this new proposal would allow NFL games from Weeks 14-17 to be flexed to Thursday night.
The only contingency is that the teams must be given 15 days of notice.
According to Albert Breer, the voting to pass this rule came close to going through.
My understanding is the vote count in the room (no official vote was taken) for the tabled TNF flex proposal was as follows …
• 22 owners for it.
• 8 owners against it.
• 2 owners abstaining.
We’ll see if Roger Goodell, who was pushing for it, can get to 24 votes in May.

Voting for this to pass would only benefit the NFL and not the players.
It would be unfair to ask them to play another Thursday night game.
Also, all of the good teams in the league would be punished because they would be the ones getting flexed into the slot.
We already have some teams that have to play twice on Thursday each year.
As the Thanksgiving games do not count as a Thursday game for some reason.
More Thursday games would be a great way to make the players mad.
That is exactly what the NFL is doing, but the proposal has been tabled for now.
But, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will once again try and push it through in May.
