Fans React To What Kevin Durant Said About His Legacy

No other player in NBA history has been as scrutinized as Kevin Durant.

He’s perhaps the only guy whose legacy will always have an asterisk next to it for some fans, up to the point where it’s almost comical now.

Durant has done more than enough to be considered one of the greatest players this game has ever seen.

His résumé speaks for itself, and the eye test also puts him right up there with the best scorers to grace the face of the Earth.

Nonetheless, some still believe that he’s taken the easy way to the top — as if there were an easy way.

That’s why, in a recent conversation with The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Durant admitted that he just doesn’t care about his legacy anymore.

Suns superstar Kevin Durant unplugged at @TheAthletic: “I don’t care about legacy. I used to…I truly just want to go out there and produce.” On “gymnastics” done to discredit, summer workout with Devin Booker, Nets exit, more.https://t.co/pEgv2LzZJ4

Needless to say, Durant’s words fueled some mixed takes on social media — as they usually do.

And his detractors are never gonna change. He could average 40ppg and play in all 82 next year on a team that sweeps its way to a title and charles barkley would be like “yeah but he had to use a ball smh.”

KD apparently cared about legacy in November https://t.co/zUHLAWTiW5

Then whyd he leave the Nets? He just wants to produce?

“I don’t care about legacy” says the guy who joined the team that beat him after blowing a 3-1 lead in the finals just so he could win rings as easily as possible

I love KD and his signed Jersey will stay on my wall, but I feel its hard to here positives about the Nets as he asked out twice in a year and he went to the place he wanted to go. It does concern me Nets are going into the summer it seems un sure of where they’re going.

Truth be told, watching Durant join a superteam was a bit of a tough pill to swallow from a fan’s standpoint.

He was too good of a player to pursue a ring with a 73-win team, which was also the same team that beat him the prior season.

But from that, to say that Durant’s legacy should have an asterisk, that’s a whole different thing.

He was arguably the best player on the court during those two championship runs, so it’s not like he had a free ride to the top.

Hopefully, people will one day give him the place he deserves in the all-time rankings, as he would’ve been a first-ballot Hall of Famer even without those two rings.
