In many ways, this season looks a lot like the last for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Last season, the team was without Zion Williamson and this year they haven’t had him for most games.

Last season, the team surprised a lot of spectators as they fought hard to make their way into the play-in tournament and this year they are doing the same thing.

And, of course, Brandon Ingram was a huge part of last season’s success and was pivotal again this year too.

Ingram just had his second 30-point triple-double in the past seven days.

Chris Paul is the only other player in franchise history with multiple 30-point triple-doubles.

Since coming to the Pelicans in the 2019-20 season, Ingram has become a crucial part of the team’s rebuilding process.

He has been smart, reliable, and a quiet but confident team leader.

This season, he is putting up an average of 24.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists a game.

The team has been patiently waiting for Williamson to be fully healthy but Ingram has stayed centered and reliable during that time.

Now his Pelicans are again preparing for a postseason run.

There was a time when it looked like New Orleans would miss the play-in and playoffs entirely.

After starting the season strongly (with Williamson) they fell off when numerous injuries dragged them down.

But they are now the seventh team in the West with a 39-38 record.

Last season, they entered the postseason as the eighth seed.

It is true that they haven’t shown the sort of progress that fans were hoping for but Ingram has proven that he could and should remain a major part of this franchise moving forward.
