The New York Mets are looking to put together another great regular season.

Last year the Mets won 101 games but were still a Wild Card team in the National League.

During the offseason, the Mets were able to add reigning AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander.

But, he is starting the season on the injured list.

Also, the Mets’ elite closer, Edwin Diaz, will miss the entire season recovering from a torn patellar tendon.

So it will be up to their bats to score plenty of runs each game.

The Mets still have two perennial all-stars in Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso.

But, it is some of their lesser-known players that can make a major impact.

One of those players is second baseman Jeff McNeil.

The reigning NL batting champion has elite bat-to-ball skills.

That is a major reason why he was able to hit .326 last season.

McNeil is in the middle of a streak that is unprecedented in today’s game.

According to Anthony DiComo, McNeil has gone 11 straight games with zero strikeouts and one hit.

Jeff McNeil is the first player in nearly half a decade to go 11 consecutive games with zero strikeouts and at least one hit. The last was Andrelton Simmons in 2018. No Met has done it since Moises Alou in 2007.

McNeil hasn’t whiffed in a Major League game since last Sept. 20.

With Major League pitchers being as good as they have ever been, McNeil is an outlier in the MLB.

He has extreme value because you know when he steps up to the plate the ball will be put into play.

Finding players that rarely strike out is tough to do, but McNeil is one of them.

It will be interesting to see how much longer he can keep this impressive streak alive.
