At one point, the Oklahoma City Thunder were considered one of the best teams in the NBA, led by the two-headed monster of superstars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.
In 2023, the Thunder are simply trying to stay in the playoff picture, as the team is on the verge of falling out of the Play-in Tournament.
With Durant infamously taking his talents to the stacked Golden State Warriors in 2016 in NBA free agency, Thunder fans were devastated as it ended their run as a legitimate title contender.
The Thunder eventually acquired Paul George to pair with Westbrook, but the new dynamic duo didn’t work as planned, and the team fell apart.
Thunder fans still haven’t forgiven Durant for leaving Oklahoma City for the Bay Area and an easy road to two NBA titles with the Warriors.

Fortunately for the Thunder, the future looks bright, with Shai Gilgeaous-Alexander proving to be a superstar in the making and Chet Holmgren expected to be the team’s second star when he gets healthy.
Oklahoma City could also make noise in the upcoming 2023 NBA Draft if able to land another valuable piece to the puzzle.
As for Durant, it’s been a rough road ever since he won two titles with the Warriors, as he’s dealt with serious injuries and bounced around the league with a disappointing ending with the Brooklyn Nets and now a fresh start with the Phoenix Suns.
Although some believe Durant and Westbrook could’ve eventually won together in Oklahoma City, the team is probably better off where they are now as this team appears to be on the verge of turning the corner.
