The Golden State Warriors just lost a game they should’ve won.

They hit the road to face the Nikola Jokic-less Denver Nuggets, yet they couldn’t execute down the stretch away from Chase Center.

That has been a common trend throughout the whole season for the reigning champions.

They hit the ground running and led by as many as 15 points but failed to close their rivals out en route to a two-point loss.

Notably, coach Steve Kerr was quite frustrated with his team’s effort, citing multiple defensive miscues and meltdowns and a poor effort to keep their foot on the gas.

“Middle of the second quarter, we had total control of the game,” Kerr said postgame. “And we stopped playing and we just lost our focus at both ends. Gave up a ton of offensive rebounds, missed box-outs. Offensively, had several mindless possessions in a row, throwing the ball away, a bunch of shot turnovers, just bad shots.”

Kerr has usually been quite supportive of his players, but this complicated season may have taken a toll on him as well.

However, some believe that the Warriors may be trying to drop in the standings on purpose.

They would be better off by letting the Los Angeles Lakers take over the fifth spot in the Western Conference, so they fall to sixth and get matched up with the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the playoffs.

Not only would that be much easier for them in terms of traveling and scheduling, but it would also allow them to avoid the Phoenix Suns in a hypothetical first-round matchup.
