Most NBA analysts thought the Dallas Mavericks made a mistake by trading for Kyrie Irving, and it didn’t take long before they proved them right.
The Mavs have been a sub.-500 team since trading for him, and they fell way outside of the playoff picture in no time.
Their defense has been non-existent, there has been no accountability, Jason Kidd urged the team to be more mature, and Luka Doncic openly admitted that he’s not having fun on the court.
That’s why ESPN’s Zach Lowe believes they’re the biggest disaster in the NBA right now, and rightfully so.

Both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder have struggled as of late but the Mavs have failed to make the most of that opportunity, losing even against teams they were supposed to beat.
Irving’s numbers haven’t been impressive, and the Mavs now have one of the worst defensive backcourts in the Association.
They gave up a solid backup point guard, multiple picks, and their best defender for a guy they didn’t need, and that might as well leave at the end of the season, especially if they fail to make the play-in tournament.
The Mavericks wanted to show Doncic that they could be in the mix for top-tier talents, but that move has backfired vastly.
Sometimes, stacking up talent isn’t a recipe for success, and Kyrie’s history of volatility and locker-room issues should’ve been more than enough to scare them away.
Now, it might be time for them to start from scratch and hit the drawing board again.
