The Arizona Cardinals haven’t found a trade suitor for All-Pro wideout DeAndre Hopkins, but that doesn’t mean they intend to keep him on their roster.

A recent report by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer via Dov Kleiman claims that the team could decide to release Hopkins, as there has been little-to-no traction on a potential trade.

Update: NFL teams think that the #Cardinals will release WR DeAndre Hopkins.

The report mentions the #Chiefs and #Patriots as potential landing spots for him under certain conditions. https://t.co/o1JZZHj9CP

The Cardinals might cut him after setting a steep asking price for his services, not to mention the fact that he’s on a big contract and isn’t exactly young.

According to the reports, the Cardinals wanted at least a second-round pick for the former Houston Texans star.

Understandably, there weren’t any takers, and he’s set to make north of $34 million in the remaining two years of his contract.

Hopkins is still one of the prime wideouts in the league, and there would be a plethora of teams lining up interested in signing him at a discount, with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs as two of the most logical destinations.

He missed the start of the season while being suspended for PED use but was back to his usual dominant self once he was eligible to return.

Needless to say, giving up on Hopkins also pretty much means they’re giving up on next season already, which makes sense, as Kyler Murray is expected to miss a big portion of the year with a major injury.

The Jonathan Gannon era will get off to a slow start in the desert, so don’t expect them to win many games in 2023.
