The Portland Trail Blazers don’t have a lot to be celebrating right now.

Damian Lillard and his team are out of contention for the playoffs, meaning that their season is officially over.

But even though things didn’t go the way fans wanted, there are still certain parts of the team to be excited about.

Their star rookie player, Shaedon Sharpe, is one of those parts.

According to NBA World, Sharpe has averaged 24.7 points, 6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists during the last seven games.

He has been shooting 42.1% from the three-point line and has been landing 8.1 treys a game.

The best part thing about Sharpe is that he’s young: the Canadian star is just 19 years old.

More than a few people are wondering if Sharpe is the future of this team.

The speculation around Sharpe has been growing all season as he has progressively become more comfortable on the court, received more minutes from head coach Chauncey Billups, and has become more productive for his struggling squad.

That speculation has blossomed in recent days as rumors about Lillard’s future have swirled.

After yet another disappointing season, inside reporting has suggested that Lillard and the Blazers’ front office might have serious discussions about his future.

That means that Lillard could be leaving the team, putting more responsibility and pressure on Sharpe’s shoulders.

But it also means that perhaps Sharpe could be part of a package deal, traded away to another team in order to land more powerful players to work alongside Lillard.

Sharpe has been proving himself this year but it’s not clear what his future in the NBA looks like.
