MLB Insider Comments On The Rays Rotation

The Tampa Bay Rays had a relatively quiet offseason after winning 86 games and securing a Wild Card berth in 2022.

However, the team’s biggest strength was on display over the weekend against the Detroit Tigers.

That strength is their starting rotation, which features Shane McClanahan, Zach Eflin, Jeffrey Springs, and Drew Rasmussen.

McClanahan, Eflin, and Springs dominated the Tigers this past weekend at Tropicana Field and helped the Rays get off to a 3-0 start on the new season.

Their rotation is looking strong, even without Tyler Glasnow, who is recovering from an oblique injury.

On Twitter, Jeff Passan of ESPN commented on the Rays rotation and how it will grow even stronger once Glasnow returns.

Once Tyler Glasnow returns from his strained oblique, Tampa Bay’s staff should be:

Shane McClanahan
Tyler Glasnow
Zach Eflin
Jeffrey Springs
Drew Rasmussen

Might be the best rotation in MLB. Yes, they’re beating up on a bad Detroit team, but these Rays should be really good.

The Rays rotation is already a major strength as the 2023 season begins to unfold.

On Thursday, McClanahan gave them six shutout innings and allowed just four hits, striking out six and walking only one Tigers batter.

The trend continued on Saturday, when Eflin gave the Rays five innings of one-run ball in his debut with the team.

Sunday was no exception.

Springs gave them six innings against the Tigers and struck out 12 while only walking one, holding them hitless through those six innings.

Once again, this is all taking place while Glasnow is recovering from an oblique injury.

Once the young right-hander returns, the Rays rotation is going to be that much more difficult to face for other teams.

They’ll look to continue their trend of dominance on Monday against the Washington Nationals.

They’ll send Rasmussen to the mound for the series opener.
