At every opportunity, a slew of NFL teams have given themselves a close look at Alabama’s Bryce Young and Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, the two best quarterback prospects in this year’s draft.
The Indianapolis Colts have the fourth overall pick, and they badly need an upgrade at quarterback after Matt Ryan, who they traded for last offseason, didn’t exactly work out this past season.
Yet they have taken an unorthodox approach toward scouting Young and Stroud, as they have waited for them to head to Southern California instead of doing so at a Pro Day.
The Colts are working out both Ohio State QB CJ Stroud and Alabama QB Bryce Young today in Southern California (where the QBs are training), per sources. Indy was sparsely repped at the QB Pro Days, preferring to do it this way.
They’ll get a close look at all the top QBs.

Young, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2021, is expected by many to be the first player chosen in the draft by the Carolina Panthers, who have the top pick, although surprises do happen.
He led the Crimson Tide to the national championship game in 2021 where they lost to the University of Georgia, and this past season, he got his team to the Sugar Bowl, where it easily defeated Kansas State University.
However, there are concerns about Young’s modest stature, as he’s just six-feet tall and less than 200 pounds, and it’s rare to see a quarterback of such average size who has made it in the NFL.
Stroud, who is listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, threw for 3,688 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2022 while taking the Buckeyes to the Peach Bowl.
If neither signal-caller is available at No. 4, Indianapolis could have its pick of two other decent QB prospects in Will Levis and Anthony Richardson.
