One doesn’t have to be a football connoisseur to realize that the New England Patriots desperately need help in their receiving corps.

Bill Belichick’s team currently holds the 14th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and they might as well use it to finally put an end to those woes.

According to NFL Rookie Watch, the Pats just had an “extensive” visit with Ohio State standout Jaxon Smith-Njigba, considered by most as the No. 1 wide receiver prospect in his class.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has reportedly had “extensive” meetings with the New England Patriots leading up to the NFL Draft.

Njigba also said in a recent interview that he would love to play with a “great quarterback” with “great arm talent” in Mac Jones.

He’s one of the most proficient route-runners to come out of college recently, and his ability to step up when it matters the most was on full display during the 2022 Rose Bowl, where he hauled in 15 receptions for 347 yards and three touchdowns.

Smith-Njigba only played three games in 2022 because of a nagging hamstring injury, but that didn’t do much to hurt his draft stock.

He had an outstanding 2021 season with 95 receptions, 1,606 yards, and nine scores, and he’d give the Pats the big-play threat they’ve lacked for ages now.

Also, the Buckeyes star reportedly claimed that he’d be thrilled to play with a “great QB” with “great arm talent,” such as Mac Jones, so it seems like this would be a match made in heaven.

Even so, Bill Belichick has only taken a wide receiver in the first round once in 23 years in charge of the team.

That first-round pick was N’Keal Harry, so his track record is far from perfect in that regard, to say the very least.
