For years, Jayson Tatum has gotten most of the praise and recognition from the media and even from most Boston Celtics fans.
To some, however, it’s been Jaylen Brown as the one that’s taken a step forward when the game and the season have been on the line.
Brown may not be as flashy or fancy as Tatum is, and he may not even have his upside.
But he’s been more consistent throughout his career, not to mention a better defender at all three levels.
That’s why the Celtics can’t seem to afford to lose him and why the fans were so scared to hear that Kendrick Perkins believes he’s ready to take his talents somewhere else.
“He is giving me all the signs that he wants out of Boston.”

Brown will enter the final year of his contract next season, and he’s hinted at testing the waters and leaving the TD Garden once he gets that chance.
Should that be the case, then Brad Stevens’ office would have no choice but to find him a trade partner in the offseason before he walks away for free.
Brown could be eligible to sign one of the largest contract extensions in NBA history, granted he makes one of the three All-NBA teams this season.
And judging by his play, his numbers, and how the Celtics have fared this year, that’s a big possibility.
But will that kind of money be enough to keep him on board for the long run?
That’s a question we won’t be able to answer for the next couple of months at the earliest.
