At this point, few people are saying that the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ trade for Donovan Mitchell last summer was a mistake.

In less than a year, Mitchell has become the most crucial player on the team, which is now on the verge of its first big postseason run in years.

Not only has Mitchell helped his team get so much better and far more competitive, he has repeatedly made league history too.

NBA History states that Mitchell is now only the fourth player over the last 25 seasons to record four straight 40+ point games.

Mitchell joins a group that includes just James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Kobe Bryant.

Mitchell’s latest run of 40-point games started on March 28, when he faced off against the Atlanta Hawks and scored 44.

That was followed just a few nights later when he scored 42 on the New York Knicks, then 40 even on the Indiana Pacers.

On Tuesday night, Mitchell and his Cavs beat the Orlando Magic by four points but Mitchell was good for 43.

Overall this season, Mitchell is averaging a career-high of 28.3 points per game, along with 4.3 rebounds, and 4.4 assists.

He is leading his team in points, which isn’t that surprising.

Now the time has come to see if the Cavaliers are able to put together a strong postseason push.

They are the fourth team in the East, which is much better than the ninth-place position they found themselves in at this point last year.

The postseason is going to be very intense and it will be a chance for Mitchell and his team to prove just how much they have grown.
