Fans of the Philadelphia 76ers went to bed smiling on Tuesday night.
Their team faced off against the second-seeded Boston Celtics and were able to score a close but important 103-101 victory.
Not only did the 76ers win, but their biggest star got to state his case for this season’s MVP.
Joel Embiid scored 52 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 assists on a wild 80% field goal percentage during the game.
Sixers coach Doc Rivers was blown away by what he saw and stated his opinion after the game.
“The MVP race is over,” an awestruck Rivers told the press.
“Tonight we couldn’t make shots. The man just scored half our points, in an NBA game,” he added.

Rivers wasn’t the only one praising Embiid after Tuesday’s game as numerous writers and analysts were starstruck by his work.
He was already in a close neck-and-neck race for MVP with Denver Nuggets leader Nikola Jokic.
But a lot of people believe that Embiid’s work on Tuesday might have officially claimed the prize for him.
Embiid has been runner-up for Most Valuable Player two years in a row now, losing to Jokic both times.
Maybe it’s that fact that has driven him to play so much harder this year.
He has averaged 33.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists with a strong 54.7% field goal percentage.
Embiid has looked like the MVP for his team and, to many, for the league.
His Sixers are the third team in the East and ready to take on the playoffs with more vigor and drive than ever before.
Fans are cautiously optimistic about what the future may hold.
They have sat toward the top of the standings before and came up short in the postseason.
76ers followers don’t want to see that happen again.
However, Embiid has never been as dominant as he is now and that may improve their chances.
