March 22 was just one of many bad days lately for the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks were in a highly competitive game against the Golden State Warriors when a confusing call by the referees led to the Warriors getting an easy two points.

Dallas was so upset by this that they protested the call with the NBA following the game.

Now the NBA has returned a judgment on their protest: Shams Charania is reporting that the NBA has denied the Mavericks’ protest of their loss against the Warriors.

Mavs protested that refs did not properly administer a call that led to uncontested Warriors basket in 2-point loss.

NBA statement: “game officials could have taken steps to better manage this particular situation…that did not provide a basis…of upholding a game protest.” https://t.co/KIU43HNJWp

An official statement from the league said that “game officials could have taken steps to better manage this particular situation” but the protest was still denied.

In the third quarter of the game, the Warriors essentially got a free bucket after a timeout.

There was confusion about who had possession of the ball because of hand gestures made by the refs.

When the playing resumed, the two teams were on opposite sides of the court at their own baskets.

This led to Jordan Poole tossing the ball to Kevon Looney for one of the easiest dunks of the year.

The Mavericks and owner Mark Cuban had every reason to be upset about what happened on March 22 but most people assumed the league wouldn’t rule in their favor.

The game was at the beginning of a really tough stretch for the Mavericks, who would go on to lose seven of nine games.

That rough stretch continues: Dallas has slid all the way down to 11th place in the West and their chances of making the playoffs are slimming.

The team needs all the wins they can get so this is yet another blow to them.
