The Boston Celtics entered the NBA season as the team to beat in the Eastern Conference.
They were already stacked with talent at nearly every position, so it’s not like there were too many areas of improvement after a trip to the NBA Finals.
Even so, Brad Stevens worked his magic to land former Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon, significantly boosting their chances of winning an NBA championship this season.
Brogdon gave them another ball-handler, playmaker, and high-IQ defender, and he could either start or come off the bench.
Joe Mazzulla chose the latter, and he’s thrived with the second unit throughout the whole season, positioning himself among the finest substitutes in the Association.
That’s why the Celtics started their very own campaign to cap off Brogdon’s remarkable season with the ultimate distinction a backup could have: the Sixth Man of the Year honor.

Brogdon has surely done more than enough to be worthy of that award, averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.7 steals, and 2.0 three-pointers per game on 48/44/87 shooting with just 1.5 turnovers in 25.0 minutes per game.
His efficiency, brains, and versatility make him the ultimate X-factor for a team that didn’t even need that much help to begin with.
The Celtics have the second-best record in the East — and the NBA — and plenty of that needs to be credited to their depth and the second unit.
So, even though there will be plenty of worthy candidates, such as Bobby Portis, Immanuel Quickley, or even Malik Monk, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Brogdon running away with this award this season.
