It’s good for top MLB prospects to have goals for a specific season.
These goals, however, shouldn’t be “reaching X level” or being in the majors by “X” date because those things are not in their control.
Things like “hitting 30 home runs,” “trimming strikeout rate by X percent,” or “stealing X bases” are much more attainable and won’t create potentially harmful expectations.
Or, in the specific case of New York Yankees outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez, keeping it simple works, too.
“‘Just stay healthy, control what I can control, and that’s it.’ Jasson Domínguez on his goals for this season,” SNY Yankees tweeted.

You might see these objectives as a bit simplistic, but they are fine from just about every point of view.
Of course, staying healthy doesn’t entirely depend on Dominguez, but he can have an influence in the way he eats, sleeps, and trains.
When he says “control the things I can control,” he is implying that he will give his best every time he takes the field, but moving up a level does not entirely depend on him.
He probably knows that MLB time is probably not in the cards for him this season, but will keep trying to tear the cover off the ball every time he steps at the plate.
Last year, he had a .813 OPS in Class-A and an even better .906 mark in High-A.
He can hit mammoth homers and steal a lot of bases while playing a serviceable center field.
He has the tools to enter top-20 prospect territory as soon as this year.
Patience will eventually pay off.
