Philadelphia 76ers fans were ecstatic before the start of the season.
Tyrese Maxey’s offseason work looked great, and he was expected to be among the frontrunners for Most Improved Player.
Maxey didn’t disappoint in the slightest, carrying the offense on his shoulders from time to time, stepping up when James Harden was hurt, and sinking some huge shots down the stretch all year long.
So, it’s not much of a surprise to see that he could be lining up to sign a huge contract extension with the Sixers, as reported by Sean Deveney, via NBA Central.

Apparently, Maxey could be eligible to sign a five-year extension worth $200 million, and the Sixers would be more than willing and glad to keep him around for the long run.
The third-year guard has blossomed as one of the best young scorers in the league, averaging 20.3 points (career-high) with 2.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.7 three-pointers on 48.1% from the floor and 43.4% from downtown.
He’s taken some pages out of Harden’s book and is a crafty scorer from all three levels.
The Kentucky product was taken with the 21st overall pick in the draft, and he’s only gotten better in every major aspect of the game since he entered the league.
Also, it takes a very mature young man to embrace such a prominent role on a team that also features Joel Embiid and the aforementioned Harden, so it’s safe to say that he’s earned his stripes and that extension already.
