The New Orleans Pelicans have gone through some drastic changes ever since the team traded superstar forward Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers a few years ago.

The struggling NBA franchise had to basically start from scratch, with the team building around Brandon Ingram and the pieces the team acquired in the blockbuster deal with the Lakers.

Fortunately, that rebuilding process was sped up a bit with the addition of Zion Williamson, who the team drafted No. 1 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.

However, despite Williamson’s incredible talent when healthy and on the floor, the former Duke superstar has struggled to stay healthy, as he’s missed 60% of the games in his NBA career thus far, according to Ty Schmit of The Pat McAfee Show.

As a No. 1 pick with as much hype that surrounded Williamson, it’s incredibly disappointing that he’s only played in 40% of games for the Pelicans thus far.

Although the Pelicans have a lot of talent and potential, Williamson’s persistent injury problems have derailed any plans for New Orleans to become a legitimate threat in the Western Conference.

The Pelicans have floated around .500 over the past few years in the Williamson era and are itching to take the next step, but who knows when the superstar forward will be involved in that or if he’ll be involved at all with the way things are going.

If Williamson continues on this path of undependability, New Orleans will have to start considering a future without him, which could come sooner rather than later.
