After starting off 3-6 in their first nine games of the season, the St. Louis Cardinals have fallen into a tie with the Philadelphia Phillies for the second-worst record in the National League.
Their starting pitching is just one of many issues plaguing the team to start the season.
The rotation is feeling the effects of not having Adam Wainwright healthy, having posted just one quality start.
However, Wainwright appears to be making steady progress after a groin issue put him on the injured list.
According to John Denton of MLB.com, the 41-year-old veteran threw a 33-pitch bullpen session on Saturday at Busch Stadium and reported no issues with his groin.
He will throw another bullpen session on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old Wainwright will throw another bullpen session with approximately 30 pitches on Tuesday.
If that session goes well, the club will decide as to whether Wainwright throws a simulated game in St. Louis or goes on a Minor League rehab start, Marmol said.

Only Jordan Montgomery has had a quality start thus far out of the Cardinals’ current five starters.
Jack Flaherty has allowed just two runs over his first two appearances, but has failed to advance past the fifth inning and has been struggling with walks.
Miles Mikolas has also been struggling.
Needless to say, Wainwright can’t come back soon enough for the Cardinals, who dropped their second series of the season on Sunday.
A return date has not yet been revealed for Wainwright, but it appears as if he is getting closer to making his return from the injured list.
The two-time World Series champion went 11-12 with a 3.71 ERA in 32 starts last season and re-signed with the team during the offseason.
A rough September cost him spot in the postseason rotation, but he was solid for most of the season and should give the Cardinals a boost upon his return.
