The Los Angeles Lakers closed out the season on a high note.
They went from a 2-10 start to the year and most likely missing the playoffs to having the second-best record and Net Rating in the league since the All-Star break.
That’s why Shannon Sharpe believes they still have a slim shot at winning the Western Conference, stating that they have a 15% chance.
Sharpe explained that the Lakers managed to hold their ground for five or six weeks without LeBron James but added that they’d go against the best teams in the conference, so they can’t afford to drop the first play-in game versus the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He also stated that having James and Anthony Davis plus a revamped roster should be enough to put them in the mix but cited that winning four-out-of-seven on the road will be an uphill battle for Darvin Ham’s team.
The Lakers are a historic franchise and the team with the most NBA Finals appearances ever.
They also have a bonafide playoff performer leading the way, and one could argue that the rest of the playoff pool lacks the postseason experience to be considered a lock to go the distance.
One could also look at the final stretch of the season and praise the Lakers for turning things around.
However, they still need to secure a spot in the playoffs first before hitting the road for at least three series before reaching the NBA Finals, where they wouldn’t have homecourt advantage either.
So, as great as LeBron is, maybe 15% is a lot.
