The Washington Wizards have struggled to stay afloat in the Eastern Conference for way too long.
The Bradley Beal – John Wall era gave them a yearly shot to make the playoffs and be a bit of a dark horse, but injuries and some alleged chemistry issues made them end that partnership sooner than expected.
The team wasn’t good enough to keep up with other powerhouses in the conference, so most insiders expected them to engage in trade talks for Beal and just hit the rebuild button.
Instead, they signed him to one of the largest contracts in NBA history, all but hampering their ability to surround him with elite talents and getting stuck in a bit of a mediocrity spiral.
That’s why fans weren’t exactly surprised when Beal admitted that they’re not good enough to win an NBA championship right now.
“I don’t think we’re good enough.”

Doesn’t help when you’re paid like a superstar, but are like the 3rd best player on that team. Yes I do think Kuzma and Porzingis had a better season than him

Several fans actually blamed Beal for signing such a big deal, although it’s not like it’s his fault that the team offered him that much money.
No disrespect to Beal, a perennial All-Star and elite scorer, but he’s making top-dollar despite not being a top-tier player, not to mention his injury-proneness.
So, the Wizards aren’t likely to be good for as long as he’s under contract.
Not because he’s not a great player, but because he’s not the kind of player who can single-handedly will a team into playoff contention, and they will never have enough money to surround him with another star, at least while he’s still in his prime.
