Just a few months ago, the Dallas Mavericks felt that the addition of Kyrie Irving could be all they needed to make the NBA Finals.

Now, they are not only missing the Finals but also the playoffs entirely.

So far, the trade for Irving hasn’t worked out as expected.

Where does that leave things for the Mavericks in their extended offseason?

NBA analyst Shams Charania appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and laid out the plans clearly.

“They’re all-in on Kyrie Irving,” Charania said of the team.

“The Mavericks’ number one priority this summer is bringing back Kyrie Irving,” he added.

He then said that the team’s second priority is to land more talent to build around Irving and Luka Doncic.

They have a few ways to do that.

The Mavericks hold two draft picks that they can use to fetch rookie stars.

Additionally, Dallas could decide to trade away those picks in package deals for current players.

Things are looking fairly bleak for the Mavericks right now but at least the team has some options to improve over the next few months.

Charania stresses the fact that while the Mavericks and Irving have a good relationship, free agency will find other suitors trying to woo the star guard away.

Dallas still believes that great things could be ahead for the team with Irving on board.

That is why they will do what it takes to keep him and build a stronger, more competitive team around him and Doncic.

Some fans are hoping the Mavs send Irving away, just months after his big arrival.

But the team is apparently taking a different approach.
