Unfortunately for Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards, this season didn’t have a lot of memorable moments.
The team will miss the NBA playoffs again, ending the year with a 35-47 record that puts them in 12th place.
Sadly, one of the most memorable parts from the year didn’t happen during a game but occurred off-court.
Beal was involved in a police investigation after a fan accused him of knocking a hat off his head.
This happened when the fan got in Beal’s face due to some bets he didn’t win.
The fan was upset over lost money because of Beal’s performance and that led to a very heated confrontation.
Beal spoke to the press about it the other day and Hoop District had footage of Beal’s take on the whole situation.
“I gamble, I understand that,” he said. “But, I also understand it’s probably a 99 percent chance I’m going to lose.”
“I’m not sitting here about to get angry at the dealer or angry at everybody else.”
Beal also said, “Nobody wants to lose money. I get it. If you keep it about sports, I’m all for it. But, I think it’s when people start getting personal, talking about your family, talking about your character, your integrity towards the game. I think all of that, we can save it. We can really keep those comments to ourselves.”
The amount of intense moments between fans and players has grown over the last few years.
It’s much more common to see fans chirping from the stands – and players chirping back.
This has resulted in raised tension, angry players, and ejected fans too.
Beal’s incident is easily one of the most heated because it got the police involved, although Beal still hasn’t been charged with any crime.
The league has said that they take the safety of both players and fans very seriously and want to work hard at making sure arguments like this don’t happen often.
But with the rise in popularity of online sports betting, we might see more of this in the future.
