Baseball is a beautiful game.
It requires specific skills to throw or hit a ball with strength and precision.
However, it also involves a luck element that makes it exciting and somewhat unpredictable.
Sometimes, a few inches can be the difference between a win or a loss.
The New York Mets certainly were on the winning end of the luck spectrum on Monday night.
You have to see this to believe it.

San Diego Padres pitcher Yu Darvish was disconcerted when not one, but two balls hit near the third base line on the infield stayed in and became singles.
On many occasions, these balls tend to drift beyond the foul line.
However, if they are hit to a perfect spot with a certain velocity (not too hard for it to reach the third baseman’s glove, but also not slow enough for the catcher to grab it) they have a chance to score an infield single.
It happened not once, but twice!
What are the odds?
First, it was a Luis Guillorme bunt attempt that ended up being successful.
Then, it was a slow chopper hit by Tomas Nido.
The Mets took advantage and won against the Padres, in part thanks to those two infield singles.
We all talk about home runs and stolen bases all day, but there is no denying that the luck factor often plays a role, too.
This time, it worked in the Mets’ favor.
Both teams should be among the last standing in the playoffs once again, just like it happened last year.
They both have strong and deep rosters, plus clear World Series aspirations.
Who knows?
Perhaps their paths will cross in October once again.
