The National Football League and NFLPA have made a new development in their mission to keep the players safe and sound.
According to a report by ESPN, they’ve finally approved a quarterback-specific helmet designed to reduce concussions.
The first quarterback-specific helmet designed to help reduce concussions has been approved for use by the NFL and NFLPA.
The helmet reduces the severity of helmet-to-ground impact, which the league says account for half of QB concussions. https://t.co/eHZzNQdBI0

The helmet, which is manufactured by Vicis, reportedly absorbs and reduces the severity of impacts to the head.
The NFL claims that approximately 50% of QB concussions come from helmet-to-ground impacts, with Tua Tagovailoa’s gruesome hit from last season as one of the biggest examples of that,
According to the report, the helmet performed 7% better than the average helmet worn by QBs in 2022.
Of course, switching helmets is not mandatory, so the league doesn’t know how many quarterbacks will actually want to wear it.
The NFLPA reportedly shared a memo and information from the studies, so players can make a decision on their own.
Notably, the memo also includes test results of the 2023 helmet laboratory testing study, which now states that seven of the formerly-recommended helmets have now been prohibited by the league.
Vicis executive Jason Neubauer claimed that the company presented the design for the Zero2 Matrix QB helmet in early 2022, and it comes shortly after the league also approved the Vicis Zero2-R Trench for defensive and offensive linemen.
Hopefully, this will lead to fewer concussions, especially after we all witnessed Tua suffer so many brutal hits in one season alone.
Football is a contact sport and as such, there’ll always be injuries and gruesome hits, which is why the league is trying to go the extra mile to protect their players.
