The Detroit Lions finished the 2022 NFL season with a record of 9-8, missing the playoffs by just one game.
Their success was unexpected for many around the league and was led by a surprisingly high-powered offense.
Heading into the 2023 campaign with their heads high, the Lions will look to build upon the success they found last year, in hopes of making the playoffs.
Making the playoffs is unfamiliar territory for the Lions as of late, and, a recent graphic from ESPN indicates that they haven’t won a playoff game since 1999.

This is the lowest total in the league during this timespan.
Since 1999, the Lions have made the playoffs on three separate occasions, but they have failed to win any of those games.
However, 2023 could look markedly different for this team, for a myriad of reasons.
For starters, the NFC North will change significantly, as the Green Bay Packers will likely be without Aaron Rodgers.
The Chicago Bears have continued to make organizational changes and roster moves as well, which could result in another growing season.
In terms of the Minnesota Vikings, their team is slated to look mostly similar to 2022, with few changes.
Will the Lions’ defense be able to stop their opponents this year, and put the offense in the best possible position?
In the upcoming draft, the Lions hold two first-round picks that could greatly impact their team.
The defensive side of the ball presents several glaring needs, but the team has been rumored to be in the market for a quarterback, should the right prospect present himself.
